IMPORTANT NOTICE! PLEASE READ!
CUSTOMER-SIDE WATER SHUT-OFF VALVE
INSTALLATION REQUIREMENT
Dear Valued Customer:
The Boron Community Services District is providing notice that, beginning with the date of this letter, all District water customers will have 90 days to install a customer-side water shut-off valve on their property, on the customer’s side of the District water meter.
The purpose of this requirement is to provide customers with 24-hour access to their own water shut-off for emergency situations, plumbing repairs, leaks, or other circumstances where it becomes necessary to immediately stop the flow of water to their property.
Having a customer-side shut-off valve provides an important benefit to the property owner by allowing water service to be turned off without waiting for District personnel to respond. This can be especially important during an emergency, when even a short delay in shutting off the water could result in unnecessary water loss or property damage.
Why Is This Required?
The District has historically responded to customer requests to turn water service on or off during emergencies, repairs, and other situations outside of normal business hours. These after-hours responses require District personnel to be dispatched and called out and have resulted in additional costs to the District. Installing a customer-side shut-off valve will allow customers to handle these situations themselves when appropriate, while reducing the need for after-hours District call-outs and associated costs.
Important: District Meters May Not Be Operated by Customers!!
Please be advised that customers are not permitted to operate, turn, or otherwise manipulate the District-owned water meter or District-side equipment.
District meters and related equipment are District property and must remain accessible to District personnel. This restriction is in place to help prevent damage to District equipment and ensure the integrity and proper operation of the water system.
The required shut-off valve must, therefore, be installed on the customer’s side of the water meter, separate from and downstream of the District meter.
After-Hours Service:
Once the 90-day installation period has expired, customers who do not have a customer-side shut-off valve and require the District to respond to an after-hours request to turn water service on or off will be subject to the District’s applicable after-hours service/call-out fee.
Customers who have installed an accessible customer-side shut-off valve will have the ability to turn their own water service on or off at any time, including nights, weekends, and holidays, without waiting for District personnel.
90-Day Compliance Period:
Customers are being provided 90 days from the date of this notice to have a customer-side shut-off valve installed. Customers are encouraged to plan for installation as soon as practical rather than waiting until the end of the 90-day period.
If you have questions, please contact the Boron Community Services District office during regular business hours.
The District appreciates your cooperation and understanding as we take steps to improve customer access, reduce response times during emergencies, protect District equipment, and help control unnecessary after-hours service costs.
Sincerely,
Boron Community Services District
